Keep it Clean and Simple

Kitchen things

A clean and simple display of all things white.

I can’t say that the rest of my house is as neat and tidy as this picture of my display shelves, but little by little progress has been made.  When it comes to tackling a project or the chore list, I tend to start on something small to motivate me to keep going.  In the midst of cleaning and organizing, the forgotten last remnant of Christmas decorations was finally taken down this week.  Yes, I did say Christmas.

One of the to do’s on the list was to clean my dishware, serving pieces, and other miscellaneous items that were stained with gray scratch marks.  This is usually a once a year cleaning project {or when needed}.

This plate is a part of a set of my everyday dishes that I have been using for over 20 years. Here is the before and the after picture from one of my plates.

Bar Keepers Friend is the multipurpose cleaner I like to use for this purpose.  It’s available at most grocery stores and other retail stores such as Target and Walmart. For one 12-ounce can it will cost about $2.00 – $3.00.

The process is simple.  Sprinkle the cleaning powder on the area to be cleaned and with a damp sponge start scrubbing the surface and soon the markings will disapper. Rinse when finished.

Don’t forget to check on the underside of the dishes for more scruff marks to clean off.

It’s nice to get them shiny, white, and looking like new again.

I like to add a little finishing touch to the house at the end of the cleaning, washing, and tidying up.  A simple bowl filled with fresh lemons to add a splash of color on the counter top. Bundles of daffodils in a container or a vase will brighten the room with the sense of the coming of spring.  Lemon scented candle {Lemon Verbena Bell Jar Candle by Park Hill} in a cute container to freshen the air.  Lastly, replace the tattered and well used kitchen towels with new ones.

It’s a good feeling when the cleaning is done.
