Veteran’s Day 2012, Honoring All Who Served

Freedom is not free.  The freedoms we cherish for over 200 years endure because of these men and women in uniform who kept our country safe.

A Thanksgiving prayer.

“God of peace, we pray for those who have served our nation and have laid down their lives to protect and defend our freedom. We pray for those who have fought, whose spirits and bodies are scarred by war, whose nights are haunted by memories too painful for the light of day. We pray for those who serve us now, especially for those in harm’s way. Shield them from danger and bring them home. Turn the hearts and minds of our leaders and our enemies to the work of justice and a harvest of peace. Spare the poor, Lord, spare the poor! May the peace you left us, the peace you gave us, be the peace that sustains, the peace that saves us. Christ Jesus, hear us! Lord Jesus, hear our prayer!”   DistrictofCalamity

Thank you to all the men and women who have served our country.

Dan Coakley (Army) · Vern Cook (Army) · Paul Keating (Marines) ·  Steve Miyamoto (Air Force, navigator) · Bud  Morris (Coast Guard) · Chip Morris (Army) · Norm Morris (Coast Guard & Army Reserve) · Chris Swan (Navy) · Glenn Szalay (Air Force) · Ted Weigold (Marines)

If you are a Veteran or know of someone who is, we would love to hear from you.

Rejoice Always

 Bible V Rejc 1thes5 16-18, w1200 x 900h

 free printable {click here}

Life is constantly busy.   In our house it’s a lot of little things like getting the kids to and from school/ activities/ appointments/ parties, clean the house and the yard, fix or patch up something or just trying to squeeze in a little  family time.  The busier we are, the more likely we are to forget to stop and be thankful for the small wonderful things around us all the time.  There are reasons to rejoice everyday.  So ‘thank you Lord’ for the dishwasher that is not working properly; I am sure there is something good here…somewhere, its just a little wet right now.

How about you, what are you continually praying or thanking God for?

~

 16 Rejoice always, 17  pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.     1 Thessalonians   5:16-18  (NIV)

C.S. Lewis’s 1st Radio Broadcast

CS Lewis Better Things Ahead

C.S. Lewis BBC radio broadcast

August 6th was the Anniversary of C.S. Lewis’s first BBC radio broadcast.  In 1941 at 7:45pm, he debuted in England the first (The Law of Human Nature) of the three series titled, Right and Wrong As A Clue To The Meaning Of The Universe.  For the next few years he went on the radio and did more group series, eventually all were collected and published in the book, Mere Christianity.

C.S. Lewis  well known works also include The Chronicles of Narnia and The Screwtape Letters.  Highly recommended reading.

For more information and news at The Official Website of C.S. Lewis.
