Apples, fall 2014

It’s apple season and there are more than plenty of apples for picking and eating at my house. I decided to collect some of the apples that have fallen to the ground and transform them into little apple votives.  This was a simple project and it was a great way for me to use those extra apples I have.

I gathered just enough apples to fill the galvinized bin leaving a little bit of room for them to float and move around when water was added.

Supplies:  apples, votive candles, melon scooper or a paring knife, matches and water.

First, fill the galvanized bin with water and put the apples in it to see how they float.  This will give a good indication of about where to scoop out the apple flesh so that when a votive is inserted, it won’t tip over.

Next, rest a votive on top of an apple to see where to cut around (trace around the votive with a Sharpie if needed).  Start from the middle of the apple, scoop the flesh out deep enough for the votive to sit inside just below or flush with the rim of the apple.

Insert the votive into the apple and repeat the steps with the others.

Light the votives with a match and enjoy the warm glow from the apple votives.

A pretty sight to see the lights glistening in the water throughout the evening.

Thank you Ruthie for those sweet, kind words. I try to find time to do things I enjoy … putting together blog posts to share with others is one of them. This tends to get done around 10 PM and midnight with a little bit of music in the background.
