My Favorite Picks From Spring Fashion 2016

Floral dresses in soft pastel hues come to mind when I think of spring fashion.  Recently, Haute Couture Fashion Week was held in Paris from January 24th to the 29th.  The designers unveiled their spring collections that were diverse from one designer to the next with each piece of garment being unique, handmade and one of a kind.  My two favorite collections were Giambattista Valli and Ralph and Russo.  In addition, Marchesa RTW spring 2016 collection from New York fashion week was also a favorite.  The selected pieces from these three collections could be described with adjectives such as voluminous, dreamy, extravagant, beautiful and enchanting.  The gowns had sweeping trains and layer upon layer of tulle and feathers meticulously sewn on. Each one was like an art piece to be admired and be inspired by, and I hope you will be too.

Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig were inspired by birds and bird cages when they designed the spring ready to wear line.

“When you’re inspired by birds, that allows you to work with all sorts of beautiful colors,” Craig noted…. “And, of course, feathers,” Chapman added with a laugh. 

These dresses featured soft feminine silhouettes draped with layers of pastel tulle and feathers to create grand voluminous gowns.

Flowers and gardens of Paris were the inspirations for Giambattista Valli’s collection.

“It’s kind of a thank-you to Paris,” he said backstage. “You know that flowers are my obsession. This time they come from the Parc de Bagatelle, the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Palais-Royal, and the Jardin des Tuileries.”

Spring was in the air at the debut of  Tamara Ralph & Michael Russo new couture collection. The runway stage was set with the backdrop displaying tall white trellises covered with delicate pink cherry blossoms. Flowers were embroidered, hand-painted, or appliquéd on to the beautiful gowns. The silhouettes were feminine and the use of soft fabrics and chiffon in pastel hues added a light, airy, and delicate feel to the garments.
