Enjoying Winter Citrus

Citrus

 

Orange…lemon…lime…grapefruit…tangelo…pomelo…and kumquats are some of the varieties of winter citrus that are in season at this time of year.  There are many recipes and ways to prepare them, and my favorite is to simply peel and eat it.  For other occasions I like to combine the different varieties together as a citrus salad or add it to mixed greens {winter citrus salad} or other fruits.  In this blog post, I want share some simple ways to enjoy them this winter.

Winter Snow & Ice Skating

The morning air was cold and crisp with the temperature hovering in the low teens when we drove over the mountain pass to visit  friends in Ellensburg, Washington.  It was a quick hour and a half drive east.  After about 20 minutes on the road, we got our first glimpse of snow scattered along the highway.  As we climbed higher in elevation, the scenery was filled with white pine trees.  We were in winter wonderland.
