I’ve been buying and using strawberries from the local market while waiting for the ones in my garden to ripen.
There are many delicious ways to enjoy strawberries. This season, I’ve been incorporating strawberries into drinks, salads, deserts {Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp}, and as a simple snack dipped in chocolate/caramel/whipped cream. I will be sharing a few of these ideas and recipes with you in the coming blog post and into July.
.
Strawberry buds and flowers started to emerge a few weeks ago and soon after, young little green berries began to appear in the garden.
.
A small amount of strawberries started to ripen this week.
.
I’ve picked and enjoyed them right from the garden.
.
The harvest was small, about a handful every few days, but well worth it.
Eating just 8 strawberries {one serving} will provide 160% of the recommended daily value of vitamin C. They are a great source of fiber, Manganese, potassium and contain high levels of antioxidants {polyphenols, helps keep cholesterol levels healthy}.
Great things come from these little berries!
