I am truly blessed to be living here in America and to have my family and friends to share it with.   The 4th of July is America’s Independence Day.  The Continental Congress took the risk and voted to declare independence from Great Britain on July 2nd, 1776. The Declaration of Independence was drafted and adopted on July 4th, 1776 and signed on August 2, 1776.  Many lives were lost for the cause, and in the end America became a separate and free country. What a wonderful occasion it is to be able to celebrate the birth of this great nation.  Bring out the red-white-and blue, the stars and stripes, and Old Glory to celebrate and show pride and patriotism for this beautiful country of ours.

Lavender ….. Gathering, Wrapping, and Gifting

From late spring and into summer is lavender season.  The varieties I have growing in the garden will yield a range of colors from deep to soft purple and pale pink/white. Recently, the little individual buds started to bloom and it was the best time to harvest some for drying and preserving.  The rest will be left to be enjoyed in the garden throughout the summer and to give as gifts.  A bundle of fresh lavender wrapped in brown paper, tied with twine, and attached with a tag to finish it off is a wonderful and personal gift to give.

Summer Barbecue, S’mores and Father’s Day

A sprinkling of barbecue flavor brings out the taste of summer.

Our little Weber grill is out in the backyard and is being put to use again.  This Father’s Day weekend will be filled with many activities for us as a family. Starting early Saturday morning, Dad and the kids will be running in a 5K race, followed by our little town parade, then four soccer games {Saturday & Sunday}, and a Father’s Day barbecue dinner will end the weekend nicely.

Oyster White ….my new favorite paint color

It’s exciting to see the transformation of a room with a coat of paint.  But what color?  The task of picking  just the right color to reflect your taste and style can be easy for some and for others it can be difficult and overwhelming.  The process of finding the right soft shade of white took me awhile to find.  In the end I narrowed it down and decided on Sherwin Williams paint color, Oyster White.  It’s my new go-to paint color for the interior walls of my home.  It has a cool gray base color with a hint of warm beige.  It compliments the decor without being bold or overpowering.

71st Anniversary of D-Day, Normandy France

This Saturday June 6th marked the 71st Anniversary of D-Day.  On this special occasion I wanted to pay tribute and share Bill and our oldest daughter, Hannah’s personal visit to the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial located in Normandy France.  To be at the site of where the turning point of history happened marked as D-Day was an amazing and a memorable experience for the two of them.  The day was filled with visits to the  visiting center, the museum, the chapel, Omaha beach and the cemetery.  Hannah told Bill later that it was one of the highlights of her trip to Europe.

The memorial was established after the war, France granted the United States 172  acres of land to bury their own.  It is situated on a bluff overlooking Omaha Beach at one of the locations where the U.S. troops landed on the Normandy coastline.  Bill brought home a brochure and a booklet from their visit to the museum that is available for downloading here-brochure and here-booklet.  It’s a great little resource of D-Day history, point of interest, and maps of the area.
