Easter Eggs, Natural Dyes

Easter eggs - natural dyes

.  .  .

This was my first attempt at dyeing Easter Eggs using natural ingredients.  The resulting color palette was a lovely pastel shades of green, blue, and cream.

After browsing through the internet and reading about the different ingredients, I decided to use what I had available which were frozen blueberries, frozen spinach, and red onion.   At the end of the experiment, I became quite discourage at the outcome of the colors the eggs took on, not at all the expected colors I thought.  The blueberries made pink eggs…the spinach had no effect on the eggs… and I actually liked the soft pink from the red onion.  After I saw the outcome, I left the eggs to dry and went off to do other things.   About an hour later I came back and discovered  the color transformation of my eggs {see above picture} and the excitement I had about this project came back.

I dyed a second batch of eggs to share the results with you.  Depending on the length of time the eggs were submerged in the liquid will effect how deep the colors will be.  Included in three of the pictures below are the egg color progressions, from the first minute they came out of the liquid to about an hour later.

Easter Basket, Treats, and Printable Tags

Easter basket

.  .  .

Spring is officially here and in a few weeks we will be celebrating Easter.

Finding the Easter basket on Easter morning is a tradition my kids look forward to-even now as teenagers.  In each of their baskets {similar to the one in the picture above} there will be sweets, chocolates and a little something special.  To personalize their baskets this year, I’ve created tags with this adorable French rabbit from The Graphic Fairy.

Easter, He is Risen {What a Friend We Have in Jesus}

Easter, He is Risen

.
Jesus paid the price for us.
He did it all for you and me.
He is Risen, Indeed!
Easter is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
He is alive and with us, our savior and our friend.

“What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” is a beautiful hymn revealing the love Jesus has for us.  I have heard and sang this hymn many times and never get tired of it {especially when Alan Jackson sings it}.  I hope you enjoy listening to this hymn with a little bit of country twang as much as I do.

The story behind the song is precious.  A simple letter written by Joseph  Scriven to his mother expressing his feeling during his time of grief and how Jesus gave him strength through it all.

Easter Table Settings and Decorations

Easter table settings and decorations

.
This past Sunday I had an unexpected and wonderful surprise from a friend. Hannah helped my good friend Ruthie put together an event and afterward she came home with a large tray of wheat grass and daffodils.  Ruthie knew I would enjoy decorating with it.

Thank you Ruthie!

Wheatgrass is available at most grocery stores in the produce department and some home and garden retailers.  While I will  be decorating with it, most people will buy and use wheatgrass as nourishment for their bodies by juicing it.  In terms of nutrition, it is rich in chlorophyll, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals.  A multipurpose plant to enjoy as a drink and for decorating.

Here’s how I used wheatgrass and daffodils to decorate my house…

The containers wheatgrass came in were not the best for displaying.  A simple solution was to wrap a long strip of white paper around the sides to cover it up.  A white tray was used to hold two containers together.

Simple arrangements of wheatgrass and daffodils lined the center of the table.

The plastic containers were removed and replaced with bowls and cups from my kitchen for this display.

Fill a large bucket with wheatgrass and scatter a few eggs on top to greet visitors at the front door on Easter Sunday.
