Stripes… Spring / Summer 2016

Fashion-stripes

The trend many designers incorporated into their spring/summer 2016 collections was the use of stripes. They ranged from soft and subtle to bold and extra large in horizontal, vertical or diagonal patterns.  The classic black and white stripes is timeless and a staple part of fashion.  With the added variety of stripes, it will be a fun season to mix and match the different patterns, colors, and styles. Here are some to consider for spring and the up coming summer from J Crew, Ralph Lauren 1 • 2 and Dolce & Gabbana

My Favorite Picks From Spring Fashion 2016

Fashion spring 2016 Marchesa

.  .  .

Floral dresses in soft pastel hues come to mind when I think of spring fashion.  Recently, Haute Couture Fashion Week was held in Paris from January 24th to the 29th.  The designers unveiled their spring collections that were diverse from one designer to the next with each piece of garment being unique, handmade and one of a kind.  My two favorite collections were Giambattista Valli and Ralph and Russo.  In addition, Marchesa RTW spring 2016 collection from New York fashion week was also a favorite.  The selected pieces from these three collections could be described with adjectives such as voluminous, dreamy, extravagant, beautiful and enchanting.  The gowns had sweeping trains and layer upon layer of tulle and feathers meticulously sewn on. Each one was like an art piece to be admired and be inspired by, and I hope you will be too.

Ralph Lauren Fall / Winter 2015

Ralph Lauren fall 2015

.  .  .

The fall season is upon us as evident in the change in color and scenery.  Ralph Lauren’s Fall/Winter 2015-16  woman’s collection captured the season beautifully. The theme throughout the show played on the essence of the American west in a refined, sophisticated, and elegant manner.  Multiple layers of rich luxurious fabrics, faux-fur constructed of shearling, suede, and cashmere were mixed and matched with simple knitted ensembles, classic suites, basic turtlenecks, shirts, pants, and skirts.  To enhance the monochromatic looks, dramatic long fringes, chunky knits, feathers, and lace along with statement accessory pieces were incorporated into each outfit.  The collection celebrated the American west and the season to its fullest.

Summer (teen) packing list … destination Cape Cod

Cape Cod, packing list

Cape Cod is the summer destination for many people living on the east coast and millions of visitors from around the world. Recently, Hannah was invited to go on a trip to Cape Cod.  This will be her first long trip away from home without us.  Our little girl is growing up and seeing her stepping out, be more independent, and making decisions is exciting.  For the trip she wanted to pack everything in one suitcase, enough basic clothes for 8-10 days and like most teens, still look cute and fashionable.

When I think of Summer and Cape Cod, the look is preppy, nautical, with mixed prints and patterns.  Looking at Hannah’s selection of clothes, I think she did a great job of pulling together her wardrobe.  I see many options to mix and match the pieces to wear for various occasions and activities, from dressy to everyday casual, to going to the beach, on a boat or out shopping.
