“When you find something you really love, you will always be able to find a spot for it in your home,” Susan Wheeler.
Located in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood is this lovely shop, Susan Wheeler Home. It is brimming with unique vintage items, collectibles, antiques, salvage pieces, and furnishings. Susan Wheeler opened her shop to the public in October 2009 and for the past 5 years it has become a destination for shoppers and interior designers. The idea of having a shop filled with her favorite things wasn’t something Susan had set out to do. Before she began this new chapter in her life, her priority for 20 plus years was to be at home with her kids. Reflecting on this change in her life, Susan said,
“I am lucky to be able to have a shop where I can gather together things that I like and have the good fortune to have nice people come and find things they like too.”
.
Many ironstone pieces Susan carries originated from Europe, like these transferware platters, bowls, and tureens.
.
Silver forks, knives, spoons and serving pieces from the past are displayed prominently with their distinct designs and personal monograms. I could spend a significant amount of time at this very spot and sift through to find just the right piece{s} to add to my collection.
.
A statement sofa with decorative wood carved arms paired with one or two gorgeous mirrors in a room would be incredible.
.
My friend Wendie {unbeknownst} became my assistant and hand model. She was so gracious with helping me and propping up things like this silver tray of forks and knives so I could take a photo.
.
An aqua blue opaline and beaded sconce… there is a matching one to this {not shown}.
.
Black and indigo sketch of a woman in an evening gown is framed in an aged/distressed gold frame.
.
There are shelves of vintage fabrics to choose from. I am eyeing the one in the middle with black stripes.
.
A pair of handsome wing chairs {above pic} from the 1940s reupholstered in grey linen and trimmed with nailheads stood at the back of the store. As you can see, there are many more things to explore…
.
Unexpected… bold… red and silver gilt mirror… love it!
.
Beautiful collection of floral transferware… Wendie {left pic} holding a pretty butter pat plate with chrysanthemum motif.
.
This is a sample of the large collection of bottles on display in various sizes and shapes. There are colors to choose from ranging from clear, slightly tinted to blue and purple.
.
Timeless jewelry pieces arranged for viewing in glass cabinets
.
What I like about this picture {excluding my selfie} is how the different layers of textures, colors, and styles of furnishings and accessories reflected off the mirrors. What do you think…add a little bit of gold to your decor?
.
The front entrance of the shop is furnished with a variety of furnitures, chandeliers, artworks and accessories.
.
My recent finds were white ironstone platters, an oval serving bowl and a monogramed ‘M’ butter knife.
There are people that you come in contact with and instantly you feel like you’ve known that person for a long time. That describes Susan Wheeler to me, a warm and gracious lady with an elegant style of her own.
Thank you Susan for letting me share about you and your store.

A week ago, I attended Susan’s special Spring 2015 Open House. The occasion was to get a first hand look at the shipment of treasures she found from her recent buying trip. It was a great evening of hors d’oeuvre, cocktails and a little browsing.

Kay,
Oh the trouble I could get into at Susan Wheeler’s! I’ve been looking for a mirror and several shown are calling my name. I love your selfie, by the way.
Judith
Likewise, what trouble I could get into at the Round Top Antique Show that you went to last year Judith …someday I will have to take a trip to Texas. One or more of the mirrors from Susan’s shop would feel right at home in your house. She has a wonderful collection, I decided to stop counting after I got to 50. Have a great rest of the weekend!
What a wonderful shop! I could lose myself in there for quite awhile, I’m sure! Your photos capture the warmth you said Susan herself exudes. Just delightful! I am new to your blog, and absolutely love it. So refreshing and lovely. And a sister in Christ, too. :o) I have combed over it this morning beginning with the driftwood sailboats, as I am making them some for my shop. Yours are so pretty. Love the little pennant string you made. I might have to do that on some!
It’s great to meet you, Kay!
Hope your weekend is wonderful!

Becky, such a delight to see your comment and introduced yourself! The little sailboats you made on your website are too cute – especially the “ glam” you added with beads and sparkles. Looking forward to see more of your driftwood sailboats 🙂
