A Little Snapshot of Our Christmas Season

.  .  .

Merry Christmas to all of you!  I know it has been awhile since my last blog post and I hope to get back to posting more in the near future.  My reasons for the long gap is basically due to the ongoing technical difficulties that have been occupying my time for the past few months. Most of the situations have been solved, and the rest will have to be addressed later.   I made a decision to separated myself from it -for now to spend time with family and friends and enjoy the holiday season.  I still periodically post on Instagram if you are wondering or wanting to know what Bill and I are currently up to. There you will find pictures of our daily life, ideas, and whatever interests us (mostly me).  Here in this blog post I have included some pictures from White Gunpowder Instagram along with other pictures that I took during the month of December.  The above picture is of our little red shed/chicken coop that Bill built to house our chickens.  It was taken earlier this month during  a snow storm. It made for a pretty Christmas picture with a simple wreath hanging on the door.

I hope you enjoy a moment here and Merry Christmas!

Pumpkin Picking and Decorating

.  .  .

The farms are officially open for pumpkin picking.  Last weekend, Bill and I decided to go out for a drive and visit the nearby farms to see what they have for us this year.  The kids had other plans and wanted  to stay home and rest.  They will probably go with me at a later date to get their carving pumpkins.  It worked out great for us to have some time together on a little excursion even if it was just out looking for pumpkins. We had country music playing on the radio as we talked and had great conversations about things.  When we arrived at the farm, it was still early in the morning and the fields had not been disturbed. I could see the different colors scattered throughout the fields, and of course my eyes went directly to where the blue, gray, and white pumpkins were growing.  We had the whole field to ourselves.  Each pumpkin was just as beautiful as the next one.  I had the hardest time deciding which one to pick.  We walked through the fields and wondered back and forth many times.  After  two hours, our wheelbarrow was full.  It was a successful trip.   We came home with over 150 pounds of pumpkins in the back of the truck.  They were cleaned and trimmed of extra vines and leaves before I placed them inside the house.

diy Flour Sack Towels and Fabric Markers

diy Flour sack towels

When an idea for a project turns out better than expected, it is quite exciting for me! The transformation of basic flour sack towels into “designer towels” with the use of fabric markers was a fun project. Simple hand-drawn leaf and stripe designs were used and it took about 5 to 10 minutes to finish each one. In this blog post, I will be sharing with you the instructions and the steps to make these pretty towels. I also included illustrations of different types of leaves you might want to include in your designs.

The finished flour sack towels are lovely for displaying when not in use.  They also make great gifts to share with others.

Spring Flowers & Blossoms for Decorating Your Home

Spring flowers& blossoms

The abundance of flowers blooming in the garden, on tree branches, and bushes make for easy cutting and gathering.  Every few days, I love to walk outside early in the morning and select one or two types of flowers to bring into the home to decorate.  Simple arrangements were often my preference.  Here are some ideas and ways to decorate with plum blossoms {top left},  lilacs {top right}, lilly of the valley {middle}, apple blossoms {bottom left}, and forget-me-nots {bottom right}.

Easter Flower Arrangements

Easter flower - egg arrangements

Hello Spring!

With the arrival of spring there is a new sense of beauty emerging. Fruit trees are blossoming and flowers are starting to come up.  On a recent trip to a gardening and nursery center, the sense of spring was in the air as I walked down the aisles filled with flowers, herbs, vegetables and other pretty plants.  After a bit of time I was able to pick a nice selection to take home to be used to make flower arrangements for Easter.  Moss, lichen and hard broiled eggs were also a part of the arrangement filling in the empty spaces between the plants.  I like the organic feel of the display {above pic} and how it brought a little touch of spring inside the house.
